Remotely wiping a device

Updated on March 20th, 2025

Remote wipe is a security feature of mobile device management. It can be used, for example, to remotely erase the memory of a device in case the device gets lost or stolen. You can also use remote wipe to remove personal information from a device when the owner of the device changes.

General information

This feature is supported on the following platforms and software versions:

  • Android
  • iOS
  • macOS
  • Windows 10
  • Windows 11

After a device is wiped, it cannot be managed with Miradore until it is enrolled again.

Wipe a device remotely

  1. Navigate to Management > Devices.
  2. Depending on whether you want to wipe one or multiple devices, do the following:
      • Select the device you want to wipe by its checkbox.
Note: You can select multiple devices at the same time, even if they are of different platforms and software versions.
      • Double-click the device you want to wipe to open its individual device page.
  3. Select Security > Wipe device.
    Miradore - wipe multiple devices
Initiating device wipe from the Devices page
Initiating device wipe from its individual device page
Initiating device wipe from its individual device page

Result: The Wipe device wizard opens and lists all available platform-specific wipe settings.

  4. On some device platforms, you have more control over the wipe process. Select the desired wipe settings as follows:

Note: If you have selected multiple devices of the same platform, the wipe settings you choose will be implemented on all of the selected devices. For example, if you selected two Android devices and select Wipe external storage, both devices' external storage will be wiped.
Wipe settings are not available for macOS devices and Android devices with a Work profile.

  5. Select Wipe.
  6. Select Close to exit the wizard.

After a device is wiped, all configuration profiles and settings managed through Miradore are removed from it. To start managing the device again, it must be re-enrolled to Miradore. With a business policy, you can have a set of configurations automatically deployed to the device upon enrollment to continue managing the device with the previous settings. Otherwise, you need to deploy all settings to the device manually.

Monitoring the wipe progress

You can track the progress of the wipe by opening the Action log tab on the device's page, or by navigating to Management > Action log.
