Miradore to support Windows 7 and Windows 8

2 min read

In addition to Windows 10 devices, you will soon be able to manage devices running Windows 7 and Windows 8 thanks to the new Miradore client.

What is the Miradore client?

Until now, we have been supporting Windows 10 devices through the operating system’s built-in MDM protocol. However, to provide new features like patch management, we are extending the management capabilities by releasing the Miradore client on November 5th, 2019. The client is designed to run on Windows 7 and above.

The client is a lightweight background service to be run on all 64-bit Windows devices. Compared to the built-in MDM protocol, the client enables us to extend Miradore’s management capabilities. In the future, we can get information about installed software products and missing patches, which is a crucial part of patch management. The client itself will not be noticeable by the end-user and will not affect the usage of Miradore.

Extended support for Windows devices

All Windows devices currently managed with Miradore through the MDM protocol will receive the client through an automated deployment. You can start enrolling your Windows 7 and Windows 8 devices on November 5th, 2019.

Moving forward, Windows devices can have two management modes:

  • In the “Full” mode, the device is managed through the MDM protocol, but it also has the Miradore client installed on it. This mode supports all Windows management features of Miradore.
  • In the “Light” mode, only the Miradore client is installed on the device. This mode supports inventory collection and patch management.

Please note that the Full management mode is only available for devices running Windows 10. Devices running Windows 7 or 8 can be managed with the Light mode only.

If you are not yet taking full advantage of Miradore, now is a good time to start managing all Windows devices and ensure your company's device security.

If you have additional questions about the client, you can reach out to your account manager or contact our support team.
