Wipe a Windows device

Created on March 20th, 2025

The wipe action in Miradore can be used to remove all data from a Windows device.

Miradore provides the following wipe options for Windows devices:

  • Regular wipe, which is useful when the device owner changes. While this option erases all data upon successful completion, the wipe process can be interrupted. When the wipe is interrupted, the device attempts to roll back to the pre-wipe state.
  • Protected wipe, which is the most secure way of erasing all data from the device, making it unrecoverable. With this feature, if the wipe fails at first, the device will keep retrying the wipe until it is successful. This is especially useful if the device was lost or stolen, and can prevent unauthorized access.

Once the device is wiped, it cannot be managed with Miradore until it is enrolled again.

Important information about protected wipe

Protected wipe ensures secure, permanent data deletion on Windows devices by retrying the process until successful. However, boot issues may arise due to rare scenarios like power loss, hardware failure, or system crashes. To prevent these, ensure stable power and functional hardware during the wipe.

If the device becomes unbootable, recovery options include reinstalling the operating system or fixing the bootloader. Successfully erased data remains unrecoverable, even if the device is restored.

Initiate a Windows device wipe

  1. Navigate to Management > Devices.
  2. Depending on whether you want to wipe one or multiple devices, do the following:
      • Select the device you want to wipe by its checkbox.
Note: You can select multiple devices at the same time, even if they are of different platforms and software versions.
      • Double-click the device you want to wipe to open its individual device page.
