Managed Device Polling Intervals and Online Statuses

Updated on June 17th, 2020

Managed devices connect to Miradore for two reasons. All devices connect (poll) the Miradore’s device management service on predefined polling interval. In addition to this, devices connect the server after a push notification event they receive when you deploy configuration profiles or applications to the device or you use the Sync now option. This document explains the standard intervals for each operating system platform.

Android

Connections to the Miradore’s device management service are managed by a client application (Miradore Online Client for Android). Client application as default settings for:

  • polling interval: 3 hours
  • inventory interval: 24 hours

If needed, these default intervals can be modified on the device from the client application settings.

iOS

iOS management is clientless utilizing the built-in management framework in the operating system. It uses following interval settings:

  • polling and inventory interval: 24 hours

Windows Phone

Windows Phone management is clientless utilizing the built-in management framework in the operating system. It uses following interval settings:

  • polling interval: 3 hours
  • inventory interval: 24 hours

Windows 7, 8, 10

Windows computers can be management using the operating system’s built-in MDM profile, Miradore Client or both depending on the Windows version. See Windows management methods for more details. Windows management uses the following interval settings:

  • polling interval: 3 hours
  • inventory interval: 24 hours

Device online statuses

Device polling intervals and last seen dates are related to device online statuses in Miradore. Online status is calculated by comparing the last seen date to status thresholds:

  • Online (green ball): connected during past 48 hours
  • Inactive (yellow ball): has connected during past 7 days but not during last 48 hours
  • Unknown (red ball): has not connected during past 7 days
  • Unmanaged (gray ball): device has been unenrolled or wiped

Location tracking

Depending on the platform and location tracking settings, location data is updated separately from the inventories and device polling. More information on the Android location tracking and iOS location tracking documentation.
