Managed device polling intervals and online statuses

Updated on September 26th, 2022

Managed devices connect to Miradore for two reasons. All devices connect (poll) Miradore's device management service on predefined polling intervals. In addition to this, devices connect to the server after a push notification event they receive when you deploy configuration profiles or applications to the device or you use the Sync Now option. This article explains the standard intervals for each operating system platform.

Android

Connections to Miradore's device management service are managed by a client application (Miradore Online Client for Android).

Client application as default settings for:

  • polling interval: 3 hours
  • inventory interval: 24 hours

If needed, these default intervals can be modified on the device from the client application settings.

iOS

iOS management is clientless utilizing the built-in management framework in the operating system.

It uses the following interval settings:

  • polling and inventory interval: approximately 24 hours (once per day)

Windows 7, 8, 10, 11

Windows computers can be managed using the operating system's built-in MDM profile, Miradore Client, or both depending on the Windows version. See Windows management methods for further details.

Windows management uses the following interval settings:

  • polling interval: 3 hours
  • inventory interval: 24 hours

Device online statuses

Device polling intervals and last seen dates are related to device online statuses in Miradore.

Online status is calculated by comparing the last seen date to status thresholds:

  • Online (green ball): connected during the past 48 hours
  • Inactive (yellow ball): has connected during the past 7 days but not during the last 48 hours
  • Unknown (red ball): has not connected during the past 7 days
  • Unmanaged (gray ball): device has been unenrolled or wiped

Location tracking

Depending on the platform and location tracking settings, location data is updated separately from the inventories and device polling. More information is available from the Android location tracking and iOS location tracking articles.
