With Apple Business or Apple School Manager, you can easily migrate your Apple devices to Miradore from another MDM solution.
Apple Business and Apple School Manager let you easily migrate your managed Apple devices from one MDM solution to another. For devices running iOS 18 or earlier and iPadOS 18 or earlier, this is done by changing the MDM server in Apple Business or Apple School Manager, and wiping the device. For devices running macOS 15 or earlier, we recommend you wipe the device after changing the MDM server, but you can skip the factory reset.
On iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS 26 or later, changing the MDM server and re-enrolling your devices in another MDM solution does not require factory resetting your device.
Migration methods
The following migration methods exist:
- Migrating Apple devices running iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15 or earlier to Miradore from another MDM server by performing a factory reset
- Migrating Mac devices running macOS 15 or earlier to Miradore from another MDM solution without performing a factory reset
- Migrating Apple devices running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26 or later to Miradore from another MDM server without performing a factory reset
Frequently asked questions
What are the differences between migration methods?
The migration method to be used mainly depends on the OS version as follows:
- Devices running iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 or earlier can only be migrated by performing a factory reset during the migration.
- Mac devices running macOS 15 or earlier can be migrated either by performing a factory reset (recommended) or by bypassing the factory reset.
- Devices running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26 or later can be migrated without performing a factory reset.
Which Apple devices can I migrate to Miradore without performing a factory reset?
Devices running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26 or later can be migrated without performing a factory reset. Additionally, for devices running macOS 15 or earlier, factory reset can be bypassed, but it is not recommended.
What happens to the data currently on the device during migration?
This depends on the migration method and OS version:
- All data on devices running iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 or earlier is removed from the device, since the migration requires a factory reset.
- If a Mac device running macOS 15 or earlier is migrated by performing a factory reset, all data is removed. If the factory reset is bypassed, all managed and personal data remains on the device.
- Devices running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26 or later are not wiped during the migration. This means that all personal data remains untouched, while managed configurations, settings, and policies are removed and must be redeployed on the device using Miradore. Managed applications deployed through the previous MDM solution might not be removed from Mac devices. However, they are removed from iPhone and iPad devices during the unenrollment process.
Can I migrate all of my managed devices running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26 or later at once?
While it is possible to migrate a large number of devices at once, we recommend doing it in batches, with at least the first group serving as a pilot group. This way, any possible feature gaps between MDM solutions can be addressed before migrating all devices.
