Exclude applications deployed on Samsung devices from battery optimization

Learn how to exclude applications deployed on Samsung devices from battery optimization using the Knox Service Plugin application.

Miradore enables you to set the battery usage of the applications you deploy to your managed Samsung devices to unrestricted by utilizing the Knox Service Plugin application. With this configuration, applications deployed from Miradore can be exempted from battery optimization settings, always allowing them to run in the background without going to sleep or deep sleep.

Requirements

To exclude applications deployed on your managed devices from battery optimization, the following requirements must be met:

• Managed Google Play must be configured for your Miradore site.
• The devices must be Samsung devices running Android 9 or later.
• The devices must support Knox.
• You must have a Knox Platform for Enterprise (KPE) license.
• Any applications whose battery optimization settings you want to control must be deployed on the devices beforehand.

Steps

1. Add Knox Service Plugin to your applications in Miradore as a managed Google Play app.
2. Add a new managed configuration to the Knox Service Plugin application or select an existing one to modify.
3. Add the Device-wide policies (Selectively applicable to Fully Manage Device (DO) or Work Profile-on company owned devices (WP-C) mode as noted) setting to the configuration by selecting the icon on the right.
   1. Select Add in the Add managed property to application configuration wizard.
   2. Select Close to exit the wizard.
4. Expand the Device-wide policies (Selectively applicable to Fully Manage Device (DO) or Work Profile-on company owned devices (WP-C) mode as noted) setting and add the Application management policies setting to the configuration by selecting the icon on the right.
   
   1. Select Add in the Add managed property to application configuration wizard.
   2. Select Close to exit the wizard.
5. Expand the Application management policies setting and add the Battery optimization allowlist setting to the configuration by selecting the icon on the right.
   
   1. In the Value field of the Add managed property to application configuration wizard, enter the package name of the application or applications whose battery usage you want to control on the device.The package name is the unique identifier of the application in the Google Play store. It can be found at the end of the URL on the application's Google Play store page. For example, the Miradore client application's package name is com.miradore.client.v2, as shown in its Google Play store URL: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.miradore.client.v2.Note: You can add multiple applications to the allowlist by entering a comma-separated list of package names in the Value field.
   2. Select Add, then Close to exit the wizard.
6. Expand the Application management policies setting and add the Enable application management controls setting to the configuration by selecting the icon on the right.
   
   1. In the Add managed property to application wizard, select the checkbox to the right of the Value field.
   2. Select Add, then Close to exit the wizard.

   Result: The configuration of the Knox Service Plugin application is set as Device-wide policies (Selectively applicable to Fully Manage Device (DO) or Work Profile-on company owned devices (WP-C) mode as noted) > Application management policies > Battery optimization allowlist, Enable application management controls, with the corresponding values added.
   

7. Deploy the application to your managed Samsung devices.

Results: The battery optimization setting of applications deployed from Miradore is set to unrestricted. You can find the setting on the device by navigating to Settings > Apps and opening the App info > Battery menu of an application.
Note: The menu path might differ depending on the device's OS version and management type.

The configuration applies to all deployed applications, whether installed before or after deploying the Knox Service Plugin with the managed configurations.
