Configuring home screen apps for the Home screen only configuration type

Updated on June 24th, 2026

The Home screen only configuration type of the Home screen & kiosk mode configuration profile lets you configure the home screen layout with apps that are immediately available from the home screen, while other apps can be accessed through the application drawer. You cannot configure kiosk features and kiosk restrictions when this configuration type is selected.

When the configuration profile is active on the device, the device user can exit the home screen temporarily as described in this article.

Requirements

Note: You cannot configure kiosk features and kiosk restrictions when this configuration type is selected.
  5. Select Create to finalize the configuration profile and close the dialog.
  6. Deploy the configuration profile to the managed Android devices.

If you want to change the applications on the device's home screen after deploying this configuration profile, follow the steps in this article.

Home screen settings for the Home screen only configuration type

Setting Description
Default text color Choose the color of the app names, time, date, and device ID (if enabled) on the home screen. The text color can be black or white.
Display device ID Enabling this setting displays the device's serial number on the home screen.
Display apps alphabetically Enabling this setting organizes the apps added to the configuration profile in an alphabetic order on the home screen. If not enabled, apps appear in the order you added them to the Home apps list.
Home apps Define the applications that appear on the home screen. Add applications to the field by entering the package name, or web app Identifier, then selecting Add. You can remove apps from the list by using the Trash icon icon.
Note: You can only add apps that are already available on the device to this list. See Application management and deployment for Android for more information on how to add applications to managed Android devices.
Static security code This setting is optional.

Enter a 6–24 character alphanumeric code that can be used to temporarily exit the home screen on all devices on which the configuration profile is deployed. To exit the home screen on specific devices, the devices' own security code can also be used along with the static security code. If no static security code is entered, only the device's security code can be used to temporarily exit the home screen.

Note: The static security code remains the same until manually changed in the configuration profile, unlike the device's security code, which regenerates every 30 days.

See Temporarily exiting the home screen while using the Home screen only or Kiosk mode with multiple apps configuration type for more information.
