Close to two years ago, we let go of the beta stamp and officially released Miradore Online into the wild. Due to the anniversary, we’ve been taking a look back at all the things we’ve achieved, how our plans have changed, our business model and our vision. It’s astounding that while two years ago we were worried about mobile security and released a tool for remediation, today we’re becoming a full-fledged EMM solution.
In the beginning…
From the beginning, we’ve made it a point of making Miradore Online free, and that hasn’t changed. The Free Plan has been there from the start, and will be there until the end. Our goal is still to offer free mobile security for everyone, and we do. After enrolling your devices, you can enforce a passcode, enforce encryption, and in the case of a lost device, wipe all data on it. You can rest assured that your data and devices are safe, and limit your exposure under security breach disclosure laws.
After launching the Free Plan, we built some more features such as an unlimited number of administrators, e-mail notifications and alerts and the API, and released them as our Business Plan. The early adopters among you may remember that was the first time we made changes to the Free Plan, until that time the administrator limit was not there. Sorry about that. It’s free, but we’re also running a business and need to invest in making our solutions ever better.
After a while, things really started picking up and while we do pride ourselves on our ease of use, the support requests were started to become tough to handle. So as we were done with Application Management, we put that as a part of the Enterprise Plan and bundled NBD support with the paid plans. Although, don’t tell anyone, but it’s actually much faster… for the Free Plan too.
The next chapter
Recently, we took a careful look at our story. Since the themes of the plans are Free – Secure, Business – Control and Enterprise – Automate, we put our features against the themes and decided it was time to make some changes. As restriction policies are much more of a Control rather than a Secure feature, we moved them to the Business Plan. Of course, we also want to try and better our business model to ensure we can keep making better and better products.
However, if you consider the minimum cost of $0.50 per device per month against your device and data plan costs – we think you’ll agree that the restrictions and location tracking are more than worth the cost. For those of you with existing environments, we hope the 6-month transition period gives you plenty of time to manage the chance. What’s more, as a token proof of our appreciation for your continued support, we’ve moved Apple DEP support to become part of the Free Plan. This allows you to enroll your devices out of the box and make sure they remain managed. It also complements our aim to make our Free Plan even more secure.
Looking forward to the future
As for the paid plans, we’re working as hard as ever. For you Enterprise guys, Android for Work support is due for release in October. This will allow you to put your work data in a container and remotely manage the container in any device running Android 5.1 or above. For the Business Plan side, location history will be available later this year.
Once we’ve got that sorted out, we know our enrollment after the first device is not the most logical or easy thing to do. You’ve said it and we’ve heard you. After we’re done with Android for Work, that’s our focus point. Back to the roots: get the devices under management as easily as possible.
So new features and more of the same. Our focus points are still ease of use, unparalleled support and response, and free security.
