The Benefits of Managing Windows Devices in Miradore

2 min read

Andreas Handler

Did you know that managing your Windows devices in Miradore can greatly enhance your operations? Not only will doing so boost efficiency and lower costs, it will also improve the security of your infrastructure. Here are the ways in which Miradore can support IT professionals in maintaining device security, compliance, and performance.

Enrollment

Miradore supports enrollment via Azure AD Enrollment (similar to Apple DEP, Samsung Knox Mobile Enrollment, or Android for Enterprise Zero Touch), which requires a certain subscription type with Microsoft. The easiest approach is a bulk enrollment. Find out how to enroll your devices in our step-by-step explanation.

Benefits

1. Application Installation

One example from one of our customers:
An application can be deployed on a device upon user request, such as the PDF-XChange Editor. Even though this particular request came in after the computer was turned off, the MSI was uploaded to Miradore and distributed via a business policy. Upon the next boot-up of the device, the application was automatically installed.

Organizations also use Miradore as a complement to Microsoft’s System Center, especially for updating VPN apps. Not only can the installation be done remotely and without user interaction, but users can also work on the device without interruption or downtime, leading to increased productivity.

2. Device Security

Disk Encryption:  Starting from Windows 10 Professional, Microsoft allows the use of BitLocker, which can be activated with Miradore. The BitLocker key is stored in Miradore and can be retrieved when needed. Find more information in our knowledge base.

Closing Security Gaps: Cyberattacks have become a recurring topic and the new EU directive NIS2 (Network and Information Security Directive 2) will require certain entities within member states, including many manufacturers, to take appropriate measures to manage and mitigate the risks posed to their network and information systems.
Thanks to our patch management for the Windows operating system and software from 120 other vendors like Adobe, Mozilla, Google, Dropbox, etc., Miradore can help closing critical security gaps in Windows systems.

Business Policies: You can create various business policies to secure your devices according to your organization’s preferences and regulations. Miradore utilizes the "Windows Configuration Service Provider (CSP)" provided by Microsoft, which can, for example, prevent unenrollment by the device user. Read more about business policies in our knowledge base.

3. Preparedness

Miradore provides you with a detailed overview of all your Windows devices, allowing you to detect early on whether a device isn't receiving regular updates or simply isn't being used. If there is a technical issue, you can intervene on all devices using Miradore combined with PowerShell to prevent further problems.

Please note that Miradore clearly distinguishes itself from Windows administration.

Miradore is not:

    • An identity provider, centrally or at the endpoint (it doesn't replace user management systems like LDAP)
    • An imaging tool that applies pre-configured Windows versions to the endpoint
    • A backup solution
    • A virus scanner or firewall
