Device set up in the enterprise can often be a long and tedious task. To remove the pain points and relieve the burden placed on IT departments, Google launched a deployment method called “Zero-Touch Enrollment."

With Zero-Touch Enrollment, devices are enrolled into MDM and configured when first turned on out of the box, and the management will persist even over factory resets, making the devices theft-proof.

A successful deployment is about more than just selecting the right devices. “It’s about getting them configured and rolled out into the hands of users as quickly and easily as possible,” notes Google product manager James Nugent in The Keyword blog.

With Zero-Touch Enrollment and Miradore, companies can automatically configure the devices they purchase in bulk and have them shipped directly to employees. There’s no need for IT to configure the device manually, saving time and effort as well as avoiding human errors.

As a result, end-users, after receiving a boxed device, simply need to open the box, turn on the device, insert a SIM card or configure Wi-Fi, and they’re ready to go. Miradore configures all settings, puts restrictions in place, and installs apps automatically.

Google’s carrier partners who offer Zero-Touch include Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile in the U.S.; BT and Deutsche Telekom in Europe; and Softbank and Telstra in Asia-Pacific.

Besides offering Zero-Touch Enrollment on its Pixel devices, Google is working with Samsung, Huawei, Sony, LG, HMD Global, Motorola, Honeywell, Zebra, and Sonim on devices, with additional OEMs to be added later. Samsung devices that ship with (or are later upgraded to) Android Oreo will also support Zero-Touch. In addition to the Google Pixel line of phones, the currently supported devices include the Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Sony’s Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact.

Mobile technology blogger (and friend of Miradore) Jason Bayton has provided a handy Zero-Touch administration guide.
