In this blog article, we would like to introduce you to a few central configurations that will help you to save even more time and effort when managing your iOS devices and at the same time increase the security of your devices.
Block the use of external AI services
AI is now present in all operating systems but is not always desired. MDM can be used to prevent functions such as mail summary (Deny Mail Summary) or the use of external AI services in general, for example for Siri (Deny external intelligence integrations).
Separate professional and private data
A frequently requested function is the separation of work and personal data, also called containerization. Many employees want to be able to use their new iOS device for both private and business purposes. This separation function makes it possible, saving the cost of a second device.
This function has been available since iOS 11.3 and can be used to prevent the exchange of data between managed and unmanaged "sources" (accounts/apps). The corresponding iOS restrictions are:
- Deny documents from managed sources in unmanaged destination
- Deny reading contacts from managed sources to unmanaged destination
- Deny writing contacts from managed sources to unmanaged destination
- Deny documents from unmanaged sources in managed destination
Prevent apps from being hidden
We often receive inquiries from our customers in connection with hidden apps. Hiding apps has been possible since iOS 14 and always leads to challenges. This can now also be prevented, using the option Deny apps to be hidden.
Set the time zone
The question of whether it is possible to set the time zone remotely on iOS devices without an (inserted) SIM card comes up time and again. This can be set centrally via the "Time Zone" configuration profile.
