Finding devices again
As contact person for our existing customers, it is always great to hear that customers have apparently enrolled more devices in MDM than expected. This is mainly because companies have more devices to manage than originally assumed.
Finding mobile devices in the company is not as easy as you might think, because, well, they are mobile. We therefore recommend that you also assign the devices to "users".
When a device is used for personal purposes, we advise creating the user and their email address in the system. If the user does not have an email address, you can still register them with another unique ID. We only send emails to this address if you initiate this in the system, for example when creating an enrollment message.
For non-personal use, we recommend using a different unique ID. If the device remains in a vehicle, for example, you can use the license plate number or the vehicle designation. If it is store-based, people often use a combination of the store name and department.
Regardless of which of the two methods you choose, we should talk about 'finding' instead of 'searching' from now on.
Attention: especially with Android, never assign more than 10 end devices to one user.
Create users efficiently
Of course, you can create users separately via our user interface. This is perfectly fine if you are creating a small number of users (<10). Any more than that and we recommend alternative methods.
A) Import from CSV
If the users to be created do not exist in an LDAP, Entra ID, or Google Workspace, or if you cannot access them, we recommend importing them via CSV.
The format should be as follows (where e-mail, first name, and last name are mandatory fields):
E-mail address;First name;Last name;Middle name;Telephone number
B) Import from the Microsoft Active Directory using Connector
To do this, you execute an application on a computer/server in the domain. This application can also be executed regularly as a scheduled task.
More detailed instructions can be found in our knowledge base.
Please note: only users with an e-mail address can be imported.
C) Import from Microsoft Entra ID (M365) or Google Workspace
What could be more efficient than automatically transferring new users from these central systems without installing additional applications?
The integration option is part of Premium+ and these services are being used by more and more companies. If you are an existing customer and would like to test this option, please get in touch with your designated Customer Success Manager. If you’re not a Miradore customer yet, please get in touch with our Sales team.
We hope this information will help you to manage your organization's mobile end devices efficiently. Our customers report set-up times for Android and iOS devices between 5 and 15 minutes.
