While the summer holiday season in Finland has already started and will be in full effect in July when essentially the entire nation stops all their work and instead focuses on swimming in lakes and bathing in saunas, we just managed to push out another release. Here’s what’s we’ve been busy with lately. Give our engineers a shout, their holidays are well deserved!

User tagging

Previously we’ve allowed tagging of devices. Now, we’ve extended this feature to users as well. When you tag your users, all of their tags will be extended to their devices as well. Our business policy enforcement can then take care of the rest. Just configure a policy to apply for certain tags, and all settings, apps and content will be delivered automatically, with zero touch.

The usage couldn’t be much simpler. Just open up your Users view, select the users you want and use the Add and Remove tags tools in the actions menu.

Read on, the following will make this more powerful.

Make the beginning of the lifecycle easier with identifier matching

The lifecycle of a device begins with an order. At this time, you’ll get the serial number, IMEI and other identifiers for the phone from the ordering system or the merchant. Traditionally the next step has been to send the device to pre- installation for configuration and enrollment. We want to bypass that, and for that reason made a feature called identifier matching.

While DEP for Apple devices and APK enrollment for Android allows us to greatly hasten the enrollment process, the problem previously was, we couldn’t know who the end user was like with normal e-mail or SMS based enrollment. However, now we’ve got a bandaid for that. You can upload a CSV file of device identifiers, Serial Number, IMEI or Apple UDID, and match that to the users. When your device is taken out of the box and enrolled, the responsible person is automatically detected, and based on the user’s tags, all settings will be automatically delivered.

Especially in combination with Apple DEP and VPP, this allows you to directly order your devices to your users, and rest assured they’ll be automatically configured out of the box while your user gets the full satisfaction of unboxing a fresh device.

And the usage is a piece of cake. From the Users view, use the Import from CSV tool and select the Device identifiers option.

Distribute your content with file deployment

One of the most frequent feature requests has for a while been file deployment. Whether you’re working in Retail with kiosk devices that need price updates, or you’re trying to deploy that F-secure license file or if you just need to have your contract templates delivered and up-to-date for your mobile sales force, we’ve now come to your rescue with our Enterprise plan.

The file deployment works in the exact same manner as our praised simple device configuration and application deployment. You simply upload your file and select on which devices you want it deployed to. And you can of course put files as a part of a business policy, allowing business policy enforcement to deploy them automatically.

And as with the previous ones, the usage is simple. Upload your files from the Files view and start deploying!

What about the automatization?

We mentioned the business policy enforcement earlier. In the Enterprise plan, you can add your Configuration profiles, Applications and Files to a package that will automatically get distributed to devices associated with those tags. It couldn’t be simpler, just head over to the Business Policies view and use the Create wizard to create yours.

And if this is the first you’re hearing from us, don’t hesitate to register. The free plan is free for an unlimited amount of devices, and you’ll also get a free 14-day Enterprise plan trial to give this stuff a spin, too.
