BYOD has been a hot topic for several years now. While it’s often hailed as a cost saver since the organization doesn’t have to invest in devices, it appears that the vast majority of adopters are not seeing it that way. So what gives? Financial justification is tough, but think about it for yourself for a second. Wouldn’t you be happier if you could own a single mobile, do your work on it and use it as you wish in your own time? And not be locked into a particular model, acquisition process or any corporate bureaucracy to get things going. Sweet, right?

It’s a dangerous world out there

If you allow your users to access your data via mobile devices, security should be your paramount concern. And if you’re not concerned about us saying so, consider that data protection and breach disclosure laws are popping up left and right. 47 US states already have one, the EU recently approved new legislation to be made into laws no later than May 2018. The investigations and repercussions are expensive, and it’s estimated that 60% of small businesses go under within six months of a data breach, especially if customer data is leaked. In a recent study by IDG, 74% of the responders report that their organizations have experienced a data breach as a result of a mobile security issue, either through apps or insecure Wi-Fi connections.

Android for Work to the rescue

Well, that’s what we’re working on. Android for Work allows us to create a work profile on your users’ devices, separating business and personal data. All contacts, e-mails and other data are separate, which means you won’t be leaking your contacts or anything else through personal apps or other mishaps. The data can be encrypted, making a lost device just a lost device, not a data breach liability issue. And did we mention you’ll be able to centrally manage all these policies, e-mail configurations and settings? No more human errors in the installation phase either. It’ll all be done automatically, with zero touch and 100% reliability.

At the beginning, there’s BYOD

The BYOD scenario is what we’ll focus on first. And after that, the other stuff is coming, too. For an at-a-glance view, please see the feature matrix below:

What are you waiting for – get onboard!

First of all, give Miradore Online a shot. Chances are we can already do a lot for you, such as make sure your devices have a passcode enabled, enforced encryption, and for Samsung ones, even black/whitelist apps and prevent firmware flashing. Your BYOD users might not be over the moon, but for your corporate owned devices, it’s a sweet deal. And it will get even sweeter. While not yet exactly around the corner, we’re working hard on Android for Work and it’ll be released come fall. Stay tuned!
